If you need to look up a verse the numbers are there, but if you want to read extended sections of the Bible, the numbers do not get in the way. The apocrypha is a selection of books which were published in the original 1611 King James Bible. As such, it is not designed to be a thinline or portable edition. It isnt clear whether it was granted an imprimatur specifically. It had long been considered among the most accurate and scholarly translations. I honestly have no idea. No foolin, I might also mention that modern editions of THE HOLY BIBLE which contain the Books Called Apocrypha have the word APOCRYPHA printed on the spine of the Bible. So, while I have no plans on getting any future premium bibles, I know for sure that this Schuyler RSV is going to be something I use daily. Ah yes, you might say that this bible isnt technically a Catholic edition. I received mine today. I love the ESV that came out 20 years ago, but its so close to this that I dont miss it. Bill It is by far more pleasant to handle than the thick board cover of the hardback edition though. It represents the best of what Schuyler can do with a Bible, and it will be an heirloom addition to any Bible library. This edition is the finest example of the RSV Ive ever had the pleasure of holding in my hands. The line spacing is relaxed, and the words of Christ are in black ink.The 28 gsm paper is nearly white, relatively opaque, and fairly matte. This edition includes the Apocrypha. Schuyler has produced the Westminster with all the bells and whistles you would expect in a premium edition - goatskin leather, edge-lined, stitched, art-gilt edges, and 4 thick ribbons. I own an original 1952 hardcover edition of the RSV from Thomas Nelson (which I found on eBay for $15), and I plan to keep my new RSV Quentel right beside that one on my bookshelf. Expanded Edition of The Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical Books Although I still love that NOAB, this Schuyler is so much nicer! It wasnt a single-column bible, and I wasnt sure I would want to engage the text by writing and highlighting in such an expensive bible. This is a major ground breaking design. We have no equivalent in Catholic Bibles. There are very few current publications of the RSV. I am a Roman Catholic; there arent that many complete Catholic translations out there. As a bonus, in my opinion at least, its black letter. No foolin, The exquisite Schuyler Bible maps (with references printed on them) represent a new epitome of the art of Bible map cartography! The calfskin is sublime. Many people used this translation for ~ 40-50 years before arrival of the NRSV or ESV. The RSV predates gender modification of nouns/pronouns which are found in most modern translations. This Bible has many of the features that are standard in premium bibles: My first impression was mild surprise at the size of this edition (in length and width). It is excellent. Here is a side-by-side comparsion: The text is line-matched, meaning that the lines of text on each side of a page are aligned to minimize ghosting of text during reading. As far as additional features go, the RSV Quentel comes with three ribbons, cross-references, a glossary/concordance, and a set of Schuylers beautiful Bible maps. Because I also own a AI ESV hardcover, I dont feel the need to purchase a premium version (especially since a CSV study bible is most likely in the works), but the RSVw/A is so good that I dont think Id be able to pass up on that offering, should it become a reality. There can sometimes be too important of theological points based on whether a you is singular or plural in a particular Bible passage, so I kinda get annoyed when I get to a page in John or something in a modern translation and half the page-bottom notes are Gk. My copy of the RSV Quentel has a Firebrick Red goatskin cover with the optional full yapp (available in red or black). The goatskin cover is beautiful and flexible with a fine grain. However, I noticed immediately that I can read this without my cheaters, which I must use for my Douay-Rheims from Crossway. The best part of this Bible, where it distinguishes itself from most others on the market, is the page layout. $200+ is a tough ask, alas, but possibly St. Nicholas will do me a solid this year and slide one under the tree for me.
